This takes me back to Primary school, once a week we would have chocolate cake and chocolate custard and it would literally be the one thing i looked forward to eating (yeah i was a lil fatty plus the food was mostly horrible :( )
So after years of never thinking I could have chocolate custard that tasted like that again. I experimented and got a good custard recipe that I indulged like never before.
I’m making the custard from scratch but you can skip a couple steps and use ‘Ambrosia’ ready made custard or ‘Birds’ Custard powder
Ingredients:
200ml whole milk
150ml double cream
4 tbsp golden caster sugar
3 large free-range egg yolks
3 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp Nutella mixed with hot water (optional)
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cornflour
Recipe:
Mix the cream and milk together on a low heat until it's nearly boiling turn off the heat and add in your Nutella mix
Get a heat proof bowl and mix the egg yolks in a bowl with the sugar, vanilla extract, cornflour and cocoa powder,
Add the hot milk/ cream mix into the bowl, Mix the ingredients until there are no lumps and return to a saucepan.
This is the most important part, as you do not want to overcook the eggs, On a low heat, continuously stir your mixture until it reaches your favourite custard consistency (I like it extra thick, personally)
Eat and enjoy with Chocolate sponge, Banana bread, Vanilla cake, anything really.
